Making your own Lime Bitters

Lime bitters is one of those flavors that is considered a staple and a must have for any home bar. If you are new to making bitters, we recommend starting off by adding your lime bitters to cocktails that call for fresh lime and lemon juice. The extra flavour dimension will compliment the cocktail ingredients quite nicely.

The recipe below will create a great tasting complex lime bitters that will bring a nice fresh lime flavor to your cocktails.

Things You Will Need

Before we start making lime bitters, there are a couple of equipment items that we recommend you have on hand. Having the right tools will make this process a whole lot easier. 

  • (1) 16oz mason jar
  • Cheese cloth or fine mesh strainer
  • Small funnel
  • (2-4)  2oz dropper bottles

Recipe Ingredients:

Makes Approx. 8oz of lime bitters.

Aromatic Bitters Spice Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Dried Lime Peel
  • 1 tsp Dried Lemon Peel
  • 1/2 tsp White Peppercorns
  • 1/2 tsp Caraway Seed
  • 1 tsp Dried Gentian Root
  • 1 tsp Organic Dried Lavender Flowers
  • 1 tsp Dried Dandelion Leaves
  • 1 tsp Dried Chamomile Flowers
  • 1 tsp Dried Hops
  • 1 tsp Dried Angelica Root
  • Zest of 3 Fresh limes cut into strips

tsp = teaspoon

Liquid Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup (4 fl. oz) 190 Proof Everclear or a High Proof Vodka
  • 1/2 Cup (4 fl. oz) High Proof White Rum
  • 2 tbsp Simple Syrup

tbsp = tablespoon
